Nicholas Bayard Genealogy

Colonel Nicholas Bayard, of New York, a distinguished citizen, Alderman of New York, was the youngest son of Samuel Bayard and Ann Stuyvesant; married in 1663 Judith Varleth (or Varlet), daughter of Casper Varleth, whose brother Nicholas Varleth was Ambassador to Virginia. Colonel Nicholas Bayard (died in 1711) and Judith Varleth or Variant had (Colonel Nicholas Bayard and Judith Varleth may have had other issue.):

•  Samuel Bayard, baptized Sept. 5, 1669; a distinguished citizen, member of Colonial Assembly and a Judge, married March 12, 1696, Margaretta Van Cortlandt, baptized August 12, 1674, daughter of Captain Stephen Van Cortlandt, born May 7, 1643, and Gertruyd Schuyler, daughter of Philip Peterse Schuyler and Margarita Van Schlechtenhorst. Captain Stephen Van Cortlandt was son of Honorable Oliver Stephanus Van Cortlandt (Oloff Stevensen Van Cortlandt) and Jane Lockermans. By this marriage of Samuel Bayard there was issue:

  • Judith Bayard, married Rip Van Dam.

  • Nicholas Bayard, married July 3, 1739, Elizabeth Rynders.

  • Stephanus Bayard, baptized May 31, 1700; married Alida Vetch.

  • Gertruyd Bayard, married Hon. Peter Kemble.

  • Margaretta Bayard, died young.

  • Margaretta Bayard, died young.

  • Samuel Bayard, married Catharine Van Horn.

  • Jacobus Bayard.

  • Margaretta Bayard, married Jacobus Van Home.
