Nicholas James Bayard Genealogy

Nicholas James Bayard, son of Dr. Nicholas Seri Bayard and Catharine Livingston, born January 7, 1799, (died Maitland, Fla., June 6, 1879); a banker in Savannah, Ga.; married first Sarah Harris, daughter of Charles Harris and Catharine McCauley McIntosh, daughter of General Lachlan McIntosh and sister of Esther McIntosh who married as second wife, as has been before stated, Dr. Nicholas Seri Bayard. Of this marriage of Nicholas James there was no issue to survive for any length of time. He married, second, Sarah Glen, of Savannah, Ga., daughter of Noble Wymberley Glen¹, son of Judge John Glen and Sarah, daughter of Dr. Noble Wymberley Jones and Sarah Davis, and had issue:

•  John Murray Bayard² born Aug. 20, 1826; married as second wife, 1871, Rose E. Howell and had:

  • Rev. George Livingston Bayard, Chaplain U. S. Navy; married Feb., 1903, Sarah Houston, of Philadelphia, Pa.

•  Florida Bayard, born Aug. 19, 1834, (died Sept. 30, 1917); married, as his second wife, Oct. 5, 1875, John J. Seay and had two children:

  • Clifford Bayard Seay, born Dec. 3, 1876; married Zeta Josephine Streett, of Baltimore, Md., and had:

    • Clifford Bayard Seay, Jr.

  • Florida Rosalie Bayard Seay, born April 15,1880; married Oct. 2,1901, James Grant Tracy, of Syracuse, N. Y., and had issue:

    • Osgard Vase Tracy³, born Oct. 27, 1902.

    • John Bayard Tracy, born Dec. 10, 1904.

    • Ellen Sedgwick Tracy, born June 9, 1908.

    • Charles Sedgwick Tracy, born June 11, 1911.

Nicholas James Bayard married third, Eliza King (died 1889, widow of Bayard Hand and daughter of Roswell King, of ancient family, who married Catharine Barrington, daughter of Josiah Barrington), and had:

•  Nicholas James Bayard, married Grace Battey, daughter of Dr. Robert Battey, and had:

  • Emma H. Bayard, born 1871, died 1881.

  • Julia B. Bayard, born 1874; married Frank Dabney Holland.

  • Robert B. Bayard.

  • Nicholas R. Bayard, born 1884.

•  Nicholas Ralph Bayard, married Miss Cecil, of Columbia, S. C.

•  Ann Livingston Bayard, born Roswell, Georgia, Feb. 3, 1850; (died Baywood, Darien, Ga., May 18, 1916; married 1867, James Alfred Atwood, born Jan. 29, 1840; (died Feb. 18, 1906, at Darien, Ga.). They had the following children:

  • Elise Barrington Atwood, married John P. Dewey.

  • Alfred Livingston Atwood, married Elizabeth Tulley and had two children.

  • Bayard McIntosh Atwood, married Sara Thacher and had:

    • Bayard McIntosh Atwood.

  • Isabelle Quintard Atwood, born April 3, 1878, at "Baywood," near Darien, Georgia; married June 14, 1901, Dr. Ernest Linwood Cornman, born July 16, 1875, and had:

    • Ernest Linwood Cornman, Jr., born March 25, 1902.

    • Quintard Atwood Bayard Cornman. born Jan. 5,1904.

    • Elise de Grant Cornman, born Feb. 2, 1906.

  • Ruth Margaret Atwood, married Nicholas Cody; both deceased.

  • Ann Rosalie Atwood, married Ludwig M. Schmidt⁴ and had:

    • Freida Schmidt.

    • Carl Schmidt

    • Rosalie Schmidt

  • Sara Alice Atwood, married James Brantley Williams and had:

    • James Bayard Williams.

    • Robert Williams.

  • James Kenneth Atwood, married Evelyn, daughter of Judge Odlin.

  • Mabelle du Terrail Atwood, born October, 1892.

Notes:

1. Died: Monday last, Noble W. Glen of this place (Savannah Republican, Aug. 20, 1866).

2. By first marriage he had a son who died.

3. Named for his ancestors on his father's side, General Osgard and General Vase.

4. Marjory McIntosh, daughter of Col. William McIntosh, married James Spalding, of the family of Ashantilly, and had among others Elizabeth Spalding, who married Wylly, from which marriage descended Ludwig M. Schmidt, who married Ann Rosalie Atwood.
