(5.) III. JAMES SMITH, [7-3] b. Jan. 29, 1756, d. Aug. 11, 1842, settled in Cavendish, Vt., 1790, Justice of the Peace, Representative in the General Court thirteen years in succession, much employed in the business of the town, m. Dec. 31, 1791 Sally Ames, who was b. May 6, 1769, and d. May 16, 1833. Isabel Ames, second wife of Robert Smith [5-1] and the above Sally Ames; were daughter of Samuel Ames, who with his wife Sarah (Ball) and several children removed from Rutland, Mass. to Hancock, N. H. The children of James and Sally Smith were:

28-1. William, b. Sept. 25, 1792, d. Sept. 11, 1796.
29-2. Sally. Married James Walker. (19.)

31-4. William. (21.)
32-5. Betsey, b. Sept. 5, 1802, died March 7, 1803.

34-7. Pamela, b. April 6, 1809, died Nov. 12, 1809.
