James Webb Montague Genealogy

16. James Webb Montague, son of John W. and Matilda Jane Grimes Montague, was b. November 15, 1846, in Wayne County, Tennessee. He joined the Ninth Tennessee Cavalry, C.S.A. in August 1864 and was with General Forest up to the surrender at Gainesville, Alabama. He was left there sick and not expected to live but soon recovered and made his way back to his home in Tennessee. He was a farmer and stock raiser and was interested in a cattle ranch in Texas. He was also a mule dealer in Missouri and Tennessee. He made his home at Mexico, Missouri. He m. (1) October 12, 1869, Sallie Emma Grant of Wayne County. She d. June 8, 1880, at Gainesville, Texas. He then m. (2) September 4, 1884, Mary Coraine Hassell of Wayne County.

40. Nona, b. January 15, 1873.

41. Joseph Grant, b. October 31, 1874.

42. James Webb, Jr., b. April 2, 1877.

(by 2nd wife)

43. Mary Hassell, b. September 2, 1886.

There may have been other children.
