Donald McKenzie GenealogyDonald McKenzie, the ancestor of the Atwood family of Georgia, appears to have been one of the Highland Clan who accompanied John More McIntosh1, the Highland Chieftain, to Georgia. He had granted to him by King George III a tract of land called "Oak Hill," near Darien, Ga. He married Mary Merriman, daughter it is said of an English officer, and it is stated that she came to Georgia in the family of General Oglethorpe. Among the early settlers in the Colony we find the name of Merriman. John Cooper, connected with the Jones family of Georgia, married a Miss Merriman. Donald McKenzie and Mary Merriman had a daughter, Ann McKenzie, who lived all of her life of 101 years at "Cedar Point," a tract of land granted to William Johnston. She was born about 1733 and died in 1834. She married John McIntosh2 and they had a son, John Lachlan McIntosh, who married Margaret McCullough and had a daughter, Ann Margaret McIntosh, who married Henry Skelton Atwood and had:
