Menteith Genealogy

Maurice Menteith, of the ancient line of Earls of Menteith, left two daughters.

  •  Isabel Menteith.

  •  Mary Menteith.

Mary, Countess of Menteith, married Walter, third son of Walter, third High Steward of Scotland, and thus became fifth Earl of Menteith. The issue of this marriage were:

  •  Alexander Menteith.

II. Sir John Menteith, who married and had, besides others: Sir Walter Menteith, ancestor of Menteith of Rusky and Kerse1 or Carse.

This Walter Menteith of Rusky2 had, besides others:

  •  John Stewart, 1352, who married Marjory Sterling, daughter of Sir John Sterling of Carse and Alva3, son of Sir John Sterling, Knight, of Carne and Alva, Sheriff of Sterling 1244-1270, of Ochiltree, son of Sir Alexander Sterling of Cawdor, 1180-1245.

Sir John Stewart, or Menteith, and Marjory Sterling had, besides others, a daughter who married Sir John Livingston (his first wife) of Callendar and had issue (see Livingston Genealogy).
